Jacksonville Concrete Resurfacing
Restore, Refinish & Transform Worn Concrete Surfaces Without the Cost of Full Replacement
Concrete resurfacing is the most cost-effective way to address a driveway, patio, pool deck, or garage floor that’s cracked, scaled, stained, or just looks worn out — when the underlying slab is still structurally sound. In Jacksonville, where UV exposure, moisture cycling, and sand-heavy soils accelerate surface wear, resurfacing is often the smarter call. First Coast Concrete has the equipment and product knowledge to determine whether your slab is a candidate for resurfacing and to execute the job correctly so the overlay bonds, cures, and lasts in Northeast Florida’s climate.
Concrete Resurfacing Company in Jacksonville
We work with homeowners refreshing aging driveways or pool decks, property managers restoring common area flatwork, commercial clients rejuvenating parking areas and building entrances, and HOAs maintaining community concrete assets throughout Duval County. Concrete resurfacing is not a DIY product — improper surface preparation is the primary reason resurfacing overlays fail, often within months. We invest the time in correct prep because the overlay is only as good as the bond to the existing slab.
We carry full general liability and workers’ compensation insurance and have experience with the humidity and temperature conditions that affect overlay application and curing in Northeast Florida.
Our Concrete Resurfacing Services
Our resurfacing process is methodical and does not skip steps:
Slab Assessment. Before we quote, we evaluate the existing slab for structural integrity. If the slab has active settlement, significant heaving, or widespread delamination, resurfacing is not the right solution — we’ll tell you. For slabs with surface scaling, hairline cracking, staining, or general weathering with a sound substrate, resurfacing is the correct call.
Surface Preparation. This is where most contractors cut corners. We shot-blast or diamond grind the existing surface to open the pores and create the surface profile required for overlay adhesion. Oil stains, sealers, and surface contaminants are mechanically removed — not just cleaned over. Cracks are repaired and stabilized before overlay application.
Crack and Joint Repair. Active cracks in the substrate are routed, cleaned, and filled with a flexible polyurethane crack filler. Control joints are re-established through the overlay with a saw cut after application.
Primer Application. Bonding primer is applied to the prepared surface and allowed to tack before the overlay goes down. In Jacksonville’s humidity, primer dwell time is adjusted for conditions to ensure proper tack.
Overlay Application. Depending on the system and finish type, we apply the overlay in one or more coats to the specified thickness. Color, texture, and pattern are incorporated at this stage.
Sealer Application. A penetrating or film-forming sealer appropriate for the overlay system and the exposure (exterior UV, pool splash zone, vehicle traffic) is applied to protect the finished surface and enhance color depth.
Concrete Overlay Installation & Finish Options
We apply several overlay systems depending on the surface condition, desired aesthetic, and use requirements:
Spray Texture Overlay (Knockdown / Splatter). A thin polymer-modified cementitious overlay applied by hopper gun and knocked down with a trowel to create a slip-resistant texture. The most common resurfacing system for pool decks and patio areas in Florida — excellent UV stability, comfortable underfoot when barefoot, and highly durable with proper sealing.
Microtoppings & Skim Coat Overlays. Ultra-thin (1/16” to 1/8”) cement-based overlays for interior floors and controlled environments. Creates a smooth, contemporary look similar to polished concrete. Used for garage floors, interior commercial floors, and covered patio areas.
Stamped Concrete Overlay. A polymer-modified overlay applied at 3/16” to 1/4” thickness, then imprinted with decorative stamps to replicate stone, brick, slate, or wood patterns. A highly effective way to transform a plain gray slab into a decorative surface. Color is integral to the mix and highlighted with accent color releases.
Broadcast Chip Systems. Full-broadcast or partial-broadcast vinyl color chip systems for garage floors and interior commercial floors. Durable, chemical resistant, and available in dozens of color blends. Finished with a high-build epoxy or polyurethane topcoat for surface protection.
Epoxy Coating Systems. Solvent-borne or water-borne epoxy primer and topcoat for garage floors, commercial kitchens, warehouses, and other applications requiring chemical resistance. Provides a hard, easy-clean surface. Not recommended for exterior applications in Florida due to UV yellowing.
Pool Deck Resurfacing. Pool decks in Jacksonville take abuse — direct sun, constant splash, bare feet, and chlorine. We use Kool Deck-style knockdown systems and acrylic overlays specifically formulated for pool deck use, with slip-resistant texture and UV-stable colorants.
Concrete Surface Restoration & Repair
Some surfaces need repair before or instead of resurfacing:
- Spall repair — delaminated or pop-out areas in the surface are chipped back to sound concrete, primed, and filled with a repair mortar textured to match the surrounding surface
- Oil and stain removal — heavy oil contamination is treated with penetrating chemical degreasers and mechanical scrubbing before overlay to ensure bond; in severe cases, the contaminated zone is ground down
- Joint spall repair — joint edges that have broken down under traffic are rebuilt with semi-rigid epoxy to restore a clean joint profile before overlay
- Scaling remediation — surfaces that have scaled from chemical attack or freeze-thaw are assessed for depth; shallow scaling is prepared and overlaid, deep scaling may require partial replacement
- Color restoration — faded or stained sealed surfaces that are otherwise intact can be stripped, recolored with concrete stain, and resealed without a full overlay
Not every worn surface needs a full resurfacing system. We diagnose the right scope and won’t oversell you on work the slab doesn’t need.
Why Jacksonville Property Owners Choose First Coast Concrete
Licensed, Insured & Experienced with Florida Conditions. Overlay adhesion in Florida’s climate is affected by humidity, temperature, and surface moisture that contractors from other markets don’t account for. We’ve applied overlays through Jacksonville summers and know how to adjust primer dwell times, application windows, and sealer cure conditions for local weather. Every job is fully insured.
Free On-Site Estimates. We assess the slab in person, discuss finish options, and provide a written quote. The estimate visit is also when we determine whether the slab is a resurfacing candidate or whether a different approach — repair, replacement, or a different system — makes more sense.
Honest Assessment, No Upsell. If your slab is a good resurfacing candidate, we’ll tell you and show you the options. If it’s not — if the substrate is too compromised for an overlay to bond reliably — we’ll tell you that too, and explain what we’d recommend instead. We’d rather give you an honest answer than take a job that will fail in 18 months.

Frequently Asked Questions — Concrete Resurfacing Jacksonville FL
How long does concrete resurfacing last in Jacksonville? A properly prepared and sealed overlay should last 10 to 15 years on a residential surface with normal use. Pool decks and exterior surfaces may require resealing every 2 to 3 years to maintain protection from UV exposure and water. The single biggest factor in overlay longevity is surface preparation — an overlay applied over a contaminated or poorly profiled surface will delaminate regardless of how good the product is.
Can you resurface a concrete driveway that has cracks? Hairline and shrinkage cracks can typically be addressed during prep — routed, filled, and overlaid. Structural cracks that move with temperature or are caused by active soil settlement are a problem — the crack will reflect through the overlay over time. We assess crack type and activity during the site visit and advise accordingly. If the cracking is structural, we’ll explain what needs to happen before resurfacing makes sense.
Is concrete resurfacing suitable for pool decks in Florida? Yes, and pool decks are actually one of the best applications for concrete resurfacing in Jacksonville. Florida pool decks take extreme UV exposure, constant moisture, and bare foot traffic. Spray texture knockdown overlays and Kool Deck-style systems are specifically engineered for this use and perform well when properly applied and sealed. We use systems rated for pool deck use — not general-purpose overlay products.
How long before I can use the surface after resurfacing? For most spray texture and overlay systems, light foot traffic is possible within 24 hours and normal use within 48 to 72 hours. Vehicle traffic on a driveway overlay should wait at least 5 to 7 days. Sealer cure is typically 24–48 hours before wet exposure. We give project-specific guidance based on the system used and the weather conditions during the cure window.
